Group Processes

Consultation in decision making, planning and evaluation of results is essential to the successful organization in Nicaragua.

It is advisable to offer all staff the opportunity to participate in the organization’s activities. Nicaraguans prefer to work in teams than individually, and frown on individual’s attempts to gain attention or recognition for themselves alone. “Went given the choice, it is common for Nicaraguans to work in pairs.”

It is important that the manager participate as a “senior” member of the team, rather than as an outside, and authoritarian figure who sets down the rules. The manager is most successful by gaining consensus on the tasks and results to be achieved, and providing follow-up on a scheduled basis.

With this in place the teams, and through them their members, can be held accountable for results, and recognition for their efforts is important.
